on you-tube, susan Boyle's video from Britain has talent is great. I hope she has made a name for herself; good to see an underdog make it. Even the judges said they were laughing at her not only for her age of 47 but I guess she is overweight and looks messy. It sounds like she did have voice training from the notes she hit. Anybody else have opinions on this?

i've heard her on a news report and she's bloody fantastic. don't really give a shit if she's fat or wahtever, though the immage concious majority will. fucking idiots they are.

I, too, saw the youtube video and thought her simply amazing! What an awesome story!

Brilliant! She is magnificent!

I heard right after the show, Simon signed her to a record deal.

Is it correct to say, in Brittan that perfect skinny movie star appearance isn't as important.

She was on the cbs early show today and they had Patty LuPone on the telephone. Patty LuPone is the one who set the standard for the song Susan sung. Anyway, she received rave reviews from Ms. LuPone.

It is too bad that BBC America doesn't air this show. It would be fun to watch!

it was wonderful to see her shock the judges and audience. She kept her composure and didn't allow their sneers to get to her. just goes to show how "blind" some sighted people can be.

The judges, especially Simon, often make remarks about the appearance of contestants on American Idol as well. It seems they think if you are not beautiful/handsome, skinny, etc. that you can't sing. Theyve been surprised a few times (Jennifer Hudson was called fat by Simon and Clay Akin was called a geek, but they were both great singers and have been successful).

Somehow, and this might be a longshot, but I think that any group of people who sees themselves as some sort of norm or majority group believe they can make fun of anyone who knowingly or unknowingly dares not to conform to their ways or doesn't want to be like them. Such people can, even subconsciously, think they are somehow supposed to be more important than those outside of their group. Most people don't understand that all the beautiful people on TV are just there to sell products, not to act as some sort of standard everyone should live by. Why do you really think the fat or geeky kid gets bullied or beat up in school? Because they publicly refuse to want to be like the cool kids or conform to the decidedly narrow standards of beauty that people think they have to live by in order to be kept in the herd. But maybe I'm just not being cynical enough. LOL!

Michelle McManus from Scotland won it a few years ago and she was over weight.

Really, I saw it. I didn't see what's so great about it. I think people are making a bigger deal out of it then it is. God, it's just a performance. GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post 12 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Monday, 11-May-2009 6:48:27

The only reason why this woman is getting the publicity she is is because of how she looks, not how she sounds. Yes she can sing, but if she had been a 40 something housewife with a couple of kids and a pretty face no big deal would have been made of it.

Yet again this is television manipulating the public in to following their agenda. Susan Boyle will have had several auditions for BGT before getting to the "meet the judges" stage. The producers knew exactly what they were doing when they put her through, and what reaction she would get.

It's all fixed.

agree with posts eleven and twelve. I actually heard her sing on the Oprah show the other day, and to be honest, I was not impressed.

I didn't think she was that good either. She had no life to her voice and yeah... But who am I to judge. :p

I'm inclined to second posts eleven an twelve. I don't feel she is as talented as some make her out to be. Also, she's no idea what may befall her as far as her passing fame might allow. She only seems to be able to sing one song, and it's margial at best.
